I had a good time at the wedding. See Kathy with her pretty dolled up face. She is such a cutied. Her sis looks just like her. And K. finally admitted as much last week. I told her she was late cause everybody been telling her that for a long time. And my two Rachels were there too. I was too much fun to be with everyone that I have not seen in a long long time. I will have a to a better job of keeping in touch.  

Labor Day weekend in Charleston

We went to Charleston, SC Labor Day weekend. It was a lot of fun. As you can see Soria caught a crab. No not from a skanky ho, but he dug up the beach to find it. Funny thing is that crab pinched him. But in the crab's defense, dude did dig a hole deep enough to reach his WHOLE ARM while he was laying on his stomach.
Other than that excitement, we were just chillin, soaking in some rays. Sweet!

Want an iPod? Read my review

I bought my iPod off of Ebay and I want to share what I have learned
from that experience.

Buying a used 4G 40GB iPod iPod comes with its ups and downs.
It is great to have all that memory space to listen to hours and hours
of music.
Don't expect to have 12 hours of battery life with a 4G. I am finding
that my 4G iPod might last 5-6 hours. Not that I am complaining, but
that is half of what I thought I would be getting.
But be careful that you don't erase all the music off the iPod when you
connect to iTunes. Better yet, find another program to manage your iPod
music collection. There are plenty of them out there. Just google it.
You will find it will be better for you in the long run.
There are also programs that will allow you to use your iPod for all
sorts of things. Making good use of all that hard drive space has
allowed my iPod to become like a Palm Pilot of sorts for me.
And if you are buying off of Ebay, make sure that you note if the vendor
shows an picture of the iPod or a stock photo. A stock photo means that
it is a picture of what the general new iPod looks like. So you should
not base your buying decision on that. You want to be sure that the iPod
does not look too beat up. The hard drive is very sensitive. If there
are lots of scratches you might be buying a ruined hard drive which will
die on you as soon as you get it.
And when you hear the hard drive running, keep iPod completely still.
Like I said before, the hard drive is very sensitive.
You might want to invest in a decent docking unit, preferably one that
will allow you to listen to music while it is charging.
Treat your iPod with care and you will be glad that you have it. Drop or
shake it, and you will probably be looking on Ebay to buy iPod parts.

I read this article and I think that Pharmaceutical companies R&D should
perform their testing on the animal rights activists since these people
want to bully firms into not testing the animals.
I know that if the choice was between me and lab rat, I rather the lab
rat try the drug first. I got more to live for.

Animal-Rights Protests Get Personal

Some animal-rights activists have stepped-up their protests, targeting
pharmaceutical companies-and, in a few cases, their employees-in an
ongoing campaign to end the use of animals in biomedical research.

As animal-rights activists have stepped-up their efforts to protest
animal testing, even a few Pfizer colleagues have felt the effects. A
small number of colleagues have received e-mails and letters, according
to Judy MacArthur Clark, who chairs the Pfizer Animal Care and Welfare
Board, and there have been a handful of isolated incidents in which
activists protested outside colleagues' homes.

"Thankfully, no one has been hurt or threatened with harm," she said.
"Nonetheless, we are taking these incidents very seriously. Colleagues
have every reason to be concerned that these groups are disrupting both
their business lives and their personal lives."

Despite the necessity for animal studies in R&D to develop life-saving
medicines, animal-rights groups insist that all animal testing be
stopped, MacArthur Clark said.

"We provide humane care for all laboratory animals and insist on a
compassionate approach to their use," she said. "Our facilities,
personnel and practices meet or exceed strict regulations protecting
animals. We work hard to refine our procedures so that they are
minimally invasive, to reduce the number of animals used in studies, and
to replace animal studies with other technologies wherever possible."

Many activists have singled out Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS), a
contract research organization (CRO) which serves the pharmaceutical,
biochemical, veterinary and food industries. Accusing HLS of animal
cruelty, the activists recently expanded their protests to include major
firms who they believe are clients of HLS. During the week of August 14,
protesters picketed and chanted outside the Washington, D.C. offices of
several pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer.

"The animal-rights groups involved in these demonstrations are
specifically attacking us for using contract research organizations
which they are determined to undermine," MacArthur Clark said. "What
they do not realize is that we carefully audit all CROs before placing
studies with them, and our veterinarians ensure that this audit covers
the standards of care and welfare in addition to the quality of
operation. We are confident that the CROs we use practice similar high
standards of care and welfare as ourselves."

John Theriault, Pfizer's vice president of Global Security, explained
that, while recent protests aimed at Pfizer have not been violent or
gone beyond the legal bounds of free speech, some activists have been
known to be physically aggressive in the past.

"As a result, we are monitoring activities directed at Pfizer and our
colleagues, and we are in regular contact with law-enforcement
authorities," Theriault said. "Our objectives are to protect colleagues
by raising their awareness of the problem, providing guidance on how to
deal with protesters if they encounter them, and ensuring that law
enforcement takes prompt and decisive actions if protests turn violent."

Dave Chappelle is a comic genius!

I was going to try to boycott the lost episodes of the Chappelle show
since it was sans Chappelle. But the lure of his
oh-so-funny-all-the-time comedy was too great.

I know that I have made myself a pawn for Comedy Central in the
meantime. But at least I am not going to buy the DVD that they put out.
I have already seen adverts for it. That is where I draw the line.

Exercise machines

We have a internal trading post where people post the items they have
for sale.

My question is "Why is this person trying to get the $$ they put into
the exercise machine?" Don't they know that all exercise equipment
depreciates faster and greated that an automobile driving off of a car
lot.

If I am paying that kind of money for a exercise machine it will be
brand new. And here is another thought. For that kind of money, if I
wanted to work on used machines, I would just join a gym.

Looking GLAM!

Zoila and I went to a Mary Kay party. It was fun. We put on a lot of makeup and complimented one another. Good day. But I could not wait to get home a wash all that stuff off. Made my face itch and you know I don't like to touch my face anyway. I did buy some perfume, so it wasn't a total waste of time to go. And Reyna was happy that her first Mary Kay party was a success.

ATL Aquarium

So last weekend, I went to the aquarium in Atlanta. It made me reminiscent for Charleston aquarium. It was okay. I was a little miffed that there was no rate for students. I had my college ID all ready. But all in all, we had a good time. The piranahs were the freakiest(top far right). So still, as if they were waiting for something to fall in the water so they could tear it apart. And the jellyfish were mesmerizing. They look too delicate to be so hurtful (their tentacles sting, if you did not know). 

Learning Italian

I have decided that I want to learn another language. And I am going to help all my friends by posting some of what I am learning....

For now I want to learn some Italian phrases. I am also trying to learn Portuguese.

I tried French, but it seems difficult to me (and that is with a CD).

And to all my friends out there: If anybody has learning Italian/Portuguese CDs, let me know. Maybe I can burn it or you can e-mail me the lessons in MP3 form.

Hearty Drinkers Have Healthy Hearts

Less Heart Disease in Women Who Drink Most, Men Who Drink Daily

May 25, 2006 -- The more women drink -- and the more often men drink --
the healthier their hearts.

The new findings, based on the self-reported drinking habits of some
57,000 middle-aged Danes, confirm a previous report that the lower risk
of heart disease in men who drink alcohol depends more on how often they
drink than on how much they drink.

And for the first time, the study finds that alcohol's heart benefit for
women doesn't depend on how often they drink -- just on how much. Study
co-leader Janne Tolstrup, PhD, is a human biologist in the Center for
Alcohol Research at Denmark's National Institute for Public Health,
Copenhagen.

"For men who drink alcohol, the most healthy way they can do that is to
drink frequently, but only in small amounts," Tolstrup tells WebMD. "To
get the beneficial effect, you don't have to drink very much."

It's a different story for women.

"What we see with women is a beneficial effect on heart disease, but
this seems associated more with amount than with frequency," Tolstrup
says. "This is a different message than for men, because the women
drinking the most have the lowest risk of heart disease. It seems to be
independent of how often they drink."

Tolstrup and colleagues report the findings in the May 27 issue of the
British Medical Journal.

Uncorking Bottles and Heart Risk

The findings don't mean that immoderate drinking -- let alone binge
drinking or alcoholism -- is good for your overall health. Doctors won't
start telling teetotalers to be tosspots.

"What also should be remembered is, here we study heart disease and see
a beneficial effect for alcohol drinking," Tolstrup says. "But alcohol
has a lot of disadvantageous effects on other diseases, such as breast
cancer. There are other health outcomes where drinkers' risk will be
increased."

Moreover, the heart benefits of drinking apply only to middle-aged or
older people.

"If we had studied young people, we would not see this beneficial effect
of drinking -- just the detrimental effect," Tolstrup says. "This is
because people in their 20s and 30s are not at risk of heart disease
yet. So this drinking benefit is confined to postmenopausal women and
men over age 50."

That having been said, the heart benefit is real. Over nearly six years,
men who drank every day cut their risk of heart disease by 41%. Women
who drank at least once a week cut their risk of heart disease by 36% or
more.

Women who drank the most -- 14 or more drinks per week -- generally had
the lowest risk of heart disease: as much as a 73% decrease in risk. For
this study, a drink was defined as 12 grams of alcohol. A 12-ounce
bottle of beer, a 5-ounce glass of wine, or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof
distilled liquor has between 11 and 14 grams of alcohol.

Men who drank 21 drinks or more a week, and drank every day, had the
lowest risk of heart disease.

A Grain of Salt on Rim of Drinking Benefit

Annie Britton, PhD, worries that people will use the Tolstrup team's
findings to justify their dangerous drinking habits. An editorial by
Britton, a public health researcher at University College, London,
accompanies the Tolstrup study.

"We really need to interpret this with a great deal of caution," Britton
tells WebMD. "It's a good study. But people will hear you have to drink
every day, and young people will see this as an excuse to increase both
the frequency and volume of their drinking."

Britton points out that too many of us drink too much -- a problem that
is getting worse, not better. Many diseases, as well as driving deaths,
are directly linked to alcohol consumption.

"We need to consider the societal implications of drinking before we
encourage people to pour the next glass," she says.

And Britton worries that people who drink every day may become
alcohol-dependent without realizing it.

"I think you can drink every day and be moderate. A glass or two of your
favorite drink doesn't sound like risky behavior," she says. "But having
a few days free from alcohol seems healthy, just to make sure you are
not addicted -- even in a mild way. To make sure you're not using
alcohol as a crutch would certainly be a sensible thing to do."

Today is is not a good day. It is 3:01 on a Sunday May 28, 2006 and I still at work. :(
I am so tired, hungry, and not in a good mood. I was frustrated on Friday. Now I am just feeling depair. Right now I am waiting for the guys in the warehouse to finish loading the truck so that I can get OUT of here. I wish they would hurry up...

Feeling frustrated...

Okay. I am at work and I am feeling very frustrated with other people. It is that time of the month again: MONTH END
That in itself does not present that much of a problem.
Situation: The people who are the powers that be have decided what the numbers should be. But I have a problem with the fact that they WAIT until there are only 3 days left in the month period to want to rush everybody into working double time to "make the numbers".
My question is "Why did they wait until the end to say 'lets make this happen'?" and "What happened to demand planning?"
They are supposed to be forecasting for the WHOLE MONTH not just month end. I mean that is the whole reason those guys make the big bucks.
I asked that question to the manager who is supposed to be in charge of demand fulfillment that question and he said "Well things have been slow all month".
I wanted to scream "AND WHY DID YOU THINK THINGS WOULD IMPROVE WITHOUT HELP?"
I am just a peon in the grand scheme of things. Unless told differently, I think that things are going well. Then at month end I hear "Oh we not going to make the number unless YOU jump to it." And being at the end of the process in Shipping means working Sunday to do "my part". So all of a sudden, what I do is important. But it is the kind of importance that means, if I don't jump through their hoops...well they will tell the VP "We would have made our numbers, but AH is shipping was not a team player."
Therein lies my frustration, I hate working Sundays but it seems that people are doing nothing until the last possible moment - meaning that my job will depend on me working at least one Sunday a month.

Yesterday (Sunday) I went to a going away party for Yanet and Tisha. Both of whom I met yesterday. I went because my friend Dynika invited me. We were always saying that we should get together. SO finally we are making steps in that direction. The association was so nice at the party. See all the happy faces. And I saw old friends and made some new ones. We need to have more parties like this one. It was a happy time for all. 

Springtime Soiree/BBQ

Dave decided to throw a BBQ and I am so glad I got invited. It was great. The food was awesome. On the menu was pork shoulder (slow cooked for more than 13 hours), spicy beef brisket, and fried turkey. Along with salad, arroz con andule, and Dominican potato salad....I ate SOOOO much. And eveybody else did too. Can you see all the full stomachs poking out. It rained off and on, but not deterring us from having a GREAT time. And we all can wait until the next time Dave decides to do it again. 

Baby shower

One of the guys at work has a very pregnant wife. Their baby is due in June. We decided to throw a baby shower last Friday. It was a small affair, but nice. It is the first child for the couple, so they are very excited. A happy time for all. And most importantly, we still got out of work by 4:30 (no overtime, ha ha).

So I have been laughing ever since Moussaoui was sentenced to life in
the SuperMax prision. Why? Because I figured he must feel frustrated
that he not going to get to go out of the world a martyr for his
religion. And then I read the latest news. Now I am ROTL because he want
to take back all the junk he was talking for the last year. Maybe he is
crazy. Maybe not. Who cares? I don't. Funny thing. People go to jail and
then convert to Islam. Dude is already Muslim, so to which religion will
he convert?

Last weekend

Group picture time! Can you tell how much fun we were having by the smiles on our faces? My fave part of las asembleas is getting together at the restaurant, eating with good friends, and having a great time. This time we went to Carrabas. It has been a while since I went there, I had forgotten how good the food is. I had the marsala chicken. Que rico!!!

I also made some new friends this time too.

professed religions. But at least the wannabe Christians are not blowing

China and Iran...what a relationship

This article talks about the fact that China is telling the world
leaders (U.S. and E.U.) to slow their role in dealing with Iran. I
guess that they can keep threating U.S. and other the UN because they
know that China got their back. And Iran is not stupid enough to blow up
stuff in China yet. I often wonder why is China and Iran so close.
Logically those conservative Muslims in Iran should be fighting with
China too because China is not the greatest place for religious
freedoms. But then again, money does talk. And China has a lot of it.
What would be interesting if Iran got their nuclear bomb and then bombed
China to show the world that they were not playing around. Then the U.S.
could just sit back and watch the melee that ensues.

Vindication. . . When will it come?

Today I am feeling a little bit pensive. This morning I found out that
there is a chance that a very close friend of mine will be facing some
difficulties in the near future. I have always been very optimistic.
Meaning, no matter what happens, I have believed that good eventually
conquers bad, manipulative people get what they deserve, and even though
for the most part that life is not fair the good are vindicated in the
end.

Yea, that is what I thought. But it seems that I have been waiting for
vindication for my friend which is not coming. I want to think that I am
not patient enough. And that his time will come when everyone will see
that he was right all along.

It just weighs heavy on my heart that he might be in for more anguish
and anxiety. All the while his tormentors continue to have a joyride and
maintain their blemish-free reputations. He has a good heart and I think
that is why I wanted so much for him to be vindicated.

Its not fair. Yea I know that for the most part life is not fair. BUT
WHEN TO SOME PEOPLE GET A BREAK?!?!?!?

Movies - Thumbs up or down?

I saw an entertaining movie last night. "A History of Violence". I
really really liked this movie. It had main man Viggo Mortensen as the
lead role. He was a nice, family man until a "heroic act" put him in the
limelight. Suddenly really bad men from his past came looking for
him...Or was it a case of mistaken identity? The suspense was killing me
too. I won't tell you all how it ended, but this movie is certainly
worth it. And in my opinion worth buying. -- 2 THUMBS UP

The other week I saw "Ice Harvest". That was not such a great use of my
time. Nor was it a great use of film. I did not really like any of the
people in the movie. John Cusack and Billy Bob Thorton were the leading
men. They both stole a lot of money from their mob boss and needed to
stay in town 1 night in order to get away with it. The catch was that
the one night was Christmas (or Christmas eve) I was not really sure
which. In the end, Cusack ended up with the money because he had a
faster gun than everyone else. But he was such a sniveling punk doing
it. Aggrevated me to no it. I wanted to slap him and say "Be a man!".

Do you rebate?

I have a friend that detests rebates. This cartoon made me think of him. I like rebates sometimes. It depends how much I am getting back and who is the company. I only deal with reputable ones. For instance, I have heard that CompUSA does not like to pay rebates in a timely manner...so I don't buy anything from them. Because even though I like rebates, I don't like to have to call and follow up when it is past the 8-10 weeks. Walgreens is really good about sending the rebate checks quicker than I expected to receive it.

A little secret: Try to use a coupon for any item that you are going to get a rebate. Its like double savings! And if it is double coupons...the savings increase too!!

Just a way I like to get over on big business - seeing as how I have to spend so much on gas, power, telephone, and internet bills.
 

My growing sentiments toward journalists

I am realizing that journalists are abusing the right to information. It
is not like the good old days of Walter Cronkite, Peter Jennings, Tom
Brokaw and all the others who took their profession seriously but
balanced it with a dose of social responsibility. These days,
journalists go and find information we are not interested in knowing,
stuff that we don't need to know, or stuff that it is better off left
not said. And this leads to, what I call, irresponsible behavior. Every
news show is looking to be the first to talk about "Breaking news" or
show off their investigative skills. Plus, I think they are easily
miffed if anyone denies them access to information, not realizing that
some secrets are better left private.

Now let me give some examples of what I am talking about.

Example 1. two words Abu Grade (yea I know I did not spell that right).
Media did all their investigative reporting to discover ALL the damaging
videos and photos of US Soldiers abusing and humilating prisoners. That
was months ago. Then just recently ACLU sued to make public another CD
which is supposed to have even more (or possibly the same) photos and
videos. Why? So they can put this stuff on the news and internet for all
to see. Further giving radical Muslims more reason to blow sh*t up.
But do you think they care about the repercussions of their actions?
Their response is that the American people need to know.
My question is "What for?" How does the knowledge of what they are doing
affect me?
Do they want me to know that war is grisely stuff? I know that already.
I don't want to see pictures of it.
Are they trying to appeal to the radical Muslims? Guess what? It does
not matter. Radical muslims don't give a crap what ACLU or other
journalist uncover. As far as they are concerned any Western is an enemy
and will be blown up if they get the chance. SO why give them fodder for
the twisted terriorist justification?!?!?

OK OK OK...the next example isn't so serious. But this falls under the
"Who cares?" category

Example 2. There was a story that was covered by the media for 2 days
about the Lt. Gov. of SC speeding and not getting a speeding ticket.
Okay, if he was in some little hokey poke towns, I would understand all
the consternation. BUT HE WAS ON THE INTERSTATE!!! Everyone speeds on
the interstate. Who cares if he did not get a ticket? I don't. If you
are on the interstate and speeding, as long as you are not driving
erratically, I don't think the po-po care if you are going a little bit
over the limit (and by a little bit I mean 20-30 mph).
And you know that politicians had to get involved to try to make matters
seem worse:

criticizing the Republican lieutenant governor.
'Andre Bauer has demonstrated once again his unbelievable immaturity and
lack of good judgment,' he said.
'His continuing actions endanger the safety of other drivers and

What got me is that Joe (yea we on first name basis now) said that the
Lt. Gov. was endangering "pedestrians". What pedestrians are walking on
the freeways and interstates? As far as I am concerned, if the Lt. Gov.
was doing the speed limit, he probably would have been slowing down
traffic and causing more opportunities for problems (i.e. road rage). I
say "Speed on Lt. Gov. " And if I get stopped, I am going to say I was
following the big Lt. Gov cause we got a luncheon to attend. Maybe I
won't get a ticket too. ;)

Bowling is so fun!

This is a crying shame

Roman Catholic archdiocese of Dublin report says 102 priests are suspected of sexually or physically abusing at least 350 children since 1940, The Associated Press reports.

What is going on that all these supposedly "men of God"? Why can't they keep their hands off of the little boys!

Perla

My friend Perla went to Mexico to visit her family. When she left she said that she did not know when she was coming back. She's funny. We would make plans to do stuff, but our plans never really came together like we wanted. So this was at the last party that I saw her (which was some time if Feb). Last week I got an email from her and she said that she did not know if she was coming back. Well she is one person that I hope we stay in touch...(referencing earlier posting)

Do you say "Keep in Touch" too?

So many times people say that they will "keep in touch" but when they actually move away, I guess it is a lot harder than it seemed to be in the beginning. I sent some cards to some people who I have not talked to in years. I realized that I am just as guilty as other people when it comes to keeping in touch. Yeah, yeah times are so hectic. But then I thought about it and questioned "Why should I feel guilty about not keeping in touch when my phone has not been exactly ringing off the hook?" Then in their (meaning all these people who were supposed to be keeping in touch with me) I have moved and most of them only had my home phone number - which has also changed. So I am sending out my little "Thinking about you" cards and hoping someone will take the next step and send me a note to say "Hello" too.

I'm O-L-D

I forgot to mention that I turned 27 the other day. I don't feel any different. In fact I feel like I am 22 and the fact that people think I look that age, I don't ever say anything different. But I feel like I should start getting serious about taking my vitamins and get a better exercise regimen or something. So for now I just going to take a nap. Maybe when I wake up, I'll feel younger. That's what I'll tell myself.

New Job

So I got this new job. It is pretty cool. Although there was a lot of hatin on me in my first week. Some chick was mad that I got the job. She is a temp and was mad she couldn't apply. At least that is the way that it seemed to me. Ever since I started working there she has been straight ignoring me. At first I thought that she did not hear me when I said hello, but after a while I realized that what the deal was. So that was that. She not signing my check, so I am not too worried. I just don't want that @#$%! to try to set me up.

Ice Skating

So I went ice skating for the first time a long time. No pictures of me shining up the icy floor with my behind. I leave that to your imagination. But you can see that everybody else is having a good time. I have to this more often, ice skating that is. 

Its a new year!

Ok ok ok. It is a new year. That does not mean any thing really for me. I dont do the new year's resolutions. What is the point? I know myself. And there is no point in making the resolutions. So I just relish in the fact that I have made it another year. Hope is better than last year (but then I say that every year)

Clubbin in Nassau

 
The night life of Nassau was cool. We went to some club that was totally hoppin. At first we were going to go to Senor Frogs. But there was nothing happening there but the club on the way was bumpin' loudly. Plus I heard that Denor Frogs had a cover charge. Screw that! I like my club scene to be free. Cuz Milton was cool about buying the drinks. So I got my party on quite proper :) There was like Party Carnival at the club. All the Carnival dancers from our ship were partyin hard. I know what I need to do for next time if I want to get in the "cool group" for party night. 

Cruisin'

 
The vacation of the year was cruise to the Bahamas. It was fun. The whole crew plus Levee came. We were all a little worried with Levee being on oxygen and all that. Thankfully all went well. So this is the beginning when we first saw the ship. The beginning of a great vacation.
